Whip up these fun treats for your kids this Halloween.
Ingredients
- 6 pink lady apples, stems removed, washed and dried
- 6 sturdy sticks or chopsticks
- Cooking spray
- 2 cups white sugar
- ½ cup glucose syrup
- ½ cup water
- Red food colouring, to preference
Method
1
Insert your stick of choice into the top of the apples. Line a baking tray with baking paper, spray top of paper with cooking spray and set aside.
2
In a small saucepan, mix the sugar, glucose and water. Place over medium heat and stir until sugar has dissolved. Using a candy thermometer, heat without stirring until the temperature reaches 150°C, about 15 mins.
3
Remove saucepan from the heat and add red food colouring, stirring until desired colour is achieved. Wait until the bubbles subside, 2–3 mins, or they will transfer onto the apples and leave air pockets through the toffee.
4
Dip an apple into the syrup, allowing excess to drip off back into the saucepan. Place apple onto prepared tray. Repeat with remaining apples. If mixture becomes hard while you are making the apples, place over low heat for 1–2 mins to allow it to soften. Once toffee has hardened, 10–15 mins, they are ready to enjoy.
